Research Grants Council visit to CUHK

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was honored to host the Research Grants Council (RGC) Visiting Party on 15 May 2025, and the last RGC Visit to CUHK was in 2018. This prestigious event is part of the RGC’s annual engagement with UGC-funded institutions, aimed at fostering dialogue and showcasing research excellence across Hong Kong’s universities.
Aligned with CUHK’s 2021-2025 Strategic Plan to achieve ‘Excellence with Purpose and Responsibility’ and its commitment to interdisciplinary research, the visit was structured around key Strategic Research Areas. The State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (SKLA) proudly hosted one of the presentations and exhibition sessions. The program featured a dynamic lineup of activities, including a presentation and a specimen exhibition on agrobiotechnology with an emphasis on soybean research to showcase our latest developments and accomplishments. These sessions highlighted CUHK’s latest innovations and achievements in agrobiotechnology and environmental sustainability.
Distinguished members of the RGC delegation included Mr. Tim Lui GBS JP, Chairman of the University Grants Committee (UGC), and Prof. Timothy Tong Wai-Cheung GBS JP, Chairman of the RGC, alongside other esteemed local and international members. The RGC panel members also engaged in fruitful discussions with the SKLA Director, Prof. HM Lam, and Deputy SKLA Director, Prof. LW Jiang and the CUHK senior management members including Prof. John Yat-Chiu Chai, CUHK Council Chairman and Prof. Y M Dennis Lo, Vice-Chancellor and President, CUHK.
This visit reaffirmed CUHK’s role as a leader in interdisciplinary research and its dedication to addressing global challenges through innovation and academic excellence.
