“2025 Biodiversity Space-Exposed Seeds Nursery Programme” Launch Ceremony

On April 12, 2025, coinciding with the United Nations International Day of Human Space Flight, the 2025 Biodiversity Space-Exposed Seeds Nursery Programme was officially launched. Nearly 300 students from 30 primary and secondary schools in Hong Kong and Macau received space-exposed seeds to engage in a six-month interdisciplinary research project. This programme is organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Education for Sustainable Development (HiESD), with support from the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of the HKSAR Government, UNESCO Hong Kong Association (UHKA), The Chinese University of Hong Kong Faculty of Education Alumni Association, The Education University of Hong Kong Alumni Association, and the Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers.

At the launch ceremony, Prof. Chan Ting Fung from our State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology was one of the officiating guests and delivered a keynote speech. Prof. Chan shared his expert insights and innovative research findings on the theme of “Genetic Diversity of Seeds and Food Security.”
