We are proud to share that Prof. Jack Wong Wing Tak, Associate Professor at CUHK’s School of Life Sciences and a member of State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (SKLA), has led a groundbreaking innovation in diabetes care.

Prof. Wong and his team at NutrigeneAI, a CUHK startup, have developed the world’s first injectable biologic drug based on Type II cytokines to regenerate blood vessels and improve microcirculation in patients suffering from diabetic foot and peripheral artery disease (PAD). This non-invasive treatment aims to reduce the risk of amputation by repairing damaged vascular tissues.

The drug was showcased at CUHK’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Day, aligning with Hong Kong’s strategic role in advancing biomedical innovation. The team has secured international patents and completed animal trials, with plans to move toward clinical applications in the next three years.

This breakthrough not only enhances patient outcomes but also contributes to reducing long-term healthcare costs and improving quality of life for over 100,000 PAD patients in Hong Kong.
